Becoming an inventor: a young Latina’s narrative

When this article, Becoming an Inventor: a Young Latina’s Narrative, was written, Lesley was 19 and a first-year student at Oregon State University majoring in electrical and computer engineering. Her parents had emigrated from Mexico and while they were not able to continue their education beyond high school, they consistently emphasized that education was a privilege. This article details the influences and experiences that were present throughout Lesley’s life, including consistent family support, participation in STEM activities, continued involvement in engineering, and understanding the importance of representation.
